Bridge Number Five

Description

Bridge No 5 on the (at the time) long disused Oxford to Cambridge Railway.

This rail line was closed to passenger traffic under the 'Beeching Cuts' to the railway network in the late 1960s leaving many local villagers stranded.

This stretch of the line continued, in part as a freight and refuelling route between Aylesbury and Bletchley until finally closing completely in the late 1980s / early 1990s.

In a reversal of fate, this rail link has been largely restored and is slated to return to public passenger service in 2024 so the scene shown here is likely consigned firmly to history.
